Mary Elizabeth Mountain 1879

This sampler is a lovely example of the redwork samplers created in the Orphan Homes in the late 1870's and early 1880's. The alphabets and motifs stitched in this sampler were found in many samplers worked during that time period. You can tell by looking at the sampler that Mary had a plan and a very ordered idea of where she wanted to stitch her alphabets, motifs, and border bands. Her placement of everything is very precise. We hope that Mary enjoyed working on her sampler and that she was pleased with the results. We enjoy being able to see it still today.

This sampler is in the private collection of Melinda Thomas.

This sampler has been charted for stitchers. You can purchase the PDF chart on Etsy directly from Lagniappecrossstitch.
